was founded in 1989 after it became clear that the growing sport had a need for
a classification or ratings system that would provide ropers with competition
that was comparable to their level of ability. This classification system, which
first began with individual assessment and voting by other ropers and producers,
soon became the industry standard and remains so in team roping, being utilized
by USTRC and other team roping producer groups. Ratings are now determined by
individual performance records throughout team roping competition and are
formulated through the USTRC’s exclusive and objective TRIAD classification
system. Originally
based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the USTRC relocated to Stephenville in 2000. A
for-profit group, it was purchased from its founder and developer Denny Gentry
in 1999 by Equibrand Corporation, a company that
services the equine industry in a number of capacities and with a vested
interest in the growth and improvement of the sport of team
roping. USTRC is
currently under the direction of President Kirk Bray and he, along with a staff
of 16 dedicated employees, oversee the production of more than 25 USTRC
sanctioned events each year, as well as the scheduling and coordination of all
other USTRC sanctioned or affiliated events, along with maintenance of member
information, performance records and the production of the monthly membership
magazine, SuperLooper
Magazine. To date,
the USTRC has awarded more than $350 million in prize money through its many
competitions. |
