"With only 100 teams entered in the roping the winners took $18,500 in cash plus $5,500 in prizes. What a phenomenal payout!!!!"

Team ropers from all over East Texas and the surrounding area converged on the Henderson County Fair Park for the USTRC’s annual East Texas Championships. In the #10 Division only 100 teams entered the roping, but with the USTRC’s new payout structure and revised payout schedule team ropers were excited about how much the roping paid. The winners took home $18,510 in cash money, two trophy Martin saddles, a pair of trophy Gist Buckles, two trophy Classic Equine saddle pads and an additional $14,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings.

Sky Parmer from Chireno, Texas and Michael Riggins from Nacogdoches, Texas emerged as the winners of the roping. All they did was catch four steers in 41.09 seconds and that was enough to secure them a paycheck for $7034, plus they received trophy Martin Saddles and USTRC National Shoot Outs worth $6000 in USTRC Flex Earnings.

"You know this was just a great roping and to win with Michael was even more special. We live close to each other and we rope all the time, but we don’t ever win," said Parmer. "It was just a great roping. The cattle were exceptional and so was the setup. The money we won was amazing. I couldn’t believe we won that much with only 100 teams entered in the roping."

Second place in the average went to the duo of Matt Marshall and Joey Garrett. They earned a fat check of $5276, trophy Gist buckles and USTRC Regional Finals Shoot Outs worth $2000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Coming in third place was the husband / wife team of David and Carra Outlaw. They caught four steers in 42.26 seconds and pocketed $3516, trophy Classic Equine saddle pads and a USTRC Regional Finals Shoot Out worth $2000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. That was for third place in the average mine you.

"This was just a really good roping and it was very roper friendly," said David Outlaw. "The USTRC just continues to step up to the plate making things great for team roping and for the team ropers."

Fourth in the average was the team of Casey Lee and young Ty Arnold. They earned $1758 in cash and a USTRC Regional Shoot Out worth $2000 in USTRC Flex Earnings.

The East Texas Championships went off without a hitch and ropers really enjoyed the setup and the event as a whole. "I really like USTRC events because they are for the family," added Outlaw. "The USTRC has really worked hard at making things extremely roper friendly and that has really balanced out the ropings. The scores are short and the cattle are great and that is what makes team roping fun. Everyone has a chance to compete and to win and that is really what I like the best about USTRC ropings. Actually all year long the USTRC has done a great job and the roping in Athens was no different. It was just a fun roping no matter how you look at it. " The USTRC wants to extend a huge "thank you" to all those that attended the East Texas Championships and we look forward to seeing you at the next one.
